Management Referral
A management referral is an independent medical assessment delivered
by an occupational health professional. We provide human resources
and line managers with a diagnosis and prognosis of an employee’s
medical and emotional wellbeing so that you are equipped to make
a business decision. The reporting can be a range of reasons such
as:
- Long-term absence
- Returning to work after agreed long-term absence
[e.g. an operation]
- Repeatedly absent for short periods
- Performance concerns at work and an underlying
medical condition may be suspected
- Recovering from an injury or an accident
- Suspected of unacceptable substance use
The employee is referred for a health assessment with an Occupational
Health supplier. Following that a report will be issued to the manager
who made the referral and the employee too. This is to ensure complete
openess of the process.
[Please note the process does not involve any treatment]
Management Referral Reports
The report will provide independent advice covering diagnosis, prognosis
and recommendations relevant to the employee’s ‘fitness for
work’, focusing on areas such as:
- Ability to carry out required duties
- Possible timed restrictions on employment due
to current medical problems
- Expected return to work date
- Appropriate capability and attendance targets
- Implications for the Disability Discrimination
Act and adjustments advised
The average cost of a referral is £400 + vat.
